ABOUT DGC

Our Company
Dairy Goat Co-operative (NZ) Ltd ("DGC") is a New Zealand based farmer-owned co-operative that manufactures and markets product derived from goat milk.

The product range from DGC is focused on nutritional products for infants and young children. These capitalise on the unique nutritional advantages of goat milk, and the New Zealand origin of the milk.

DGC's range of quality products are based on these key principles:
  • New Zealand-origin goat milk
  • Nutritional products specially designed to meet the needs of infants and young children
  • Premium products produced according to strict quality requirements
  • Keeping products as natural as possible by use of whole goat milk as the foundation, rather than fractionated components from milk
DGC is the world market leader in goat milk nutritional products:
  • DGC developed the world's first infant formula based on goat milk in the late 1980's. This product, and other nutritional products based on goat milk, have proved to be successful in a number of countries around the world.
  • DGC has the world's first factory designed specifically to manufacture goat milk nutritional products. Other producers of goat milk powder products typically utilise and share cow milk processing factory facilities.
  • DGC completed the first clinical study on growth of infants using goat milk formula

DGC specialises in the manufacture of nutritional products for infants and young children.  Our products are exported to many different countries.  Goat milk products are the core of our product range, but DGC also has a complementary range of cow milk products for some markets.  DGC products are sold under a number of different brand names, all of which are manufactured from milk produced in New Zealand.

All manufacturing steps for DGC products are conducted in New Zealand using registered dairy processing and packaging facilities.  Formulas for infants and young children are packed and sealed in consumer-ready cans in New Zealand before being shipped to overseas markets.  DGC does not export nutritional products in bulk for repacking into cans outside of New Zealand.

DGC products are authorised to display the Brand New Zealand fern, a symbol of quality products of New Zealand origin.

Our Industry
New Zealand has a long-established dairy goat industry. Dairy Goat Co-operative (N.Z.) Ltd is the main producer of products from goat milk in New Zealand.

The predominant breed of dairy goat in New Zealand (accounting for about 85% of the national herd) is the Saanen, a white goat of Swiss origin. Other breeds which make up the national herd include Alpine, Toggenburg and Nubian. The New Zealand dairy goat herd is of high genetic quality and is highly regarded by other dairy goat industries around the world.

New Zealand's dairy goat industry operates a seasonal production system, with goats typically in milk from August to May each year.

Quality systems are paramount. From on-farm practices through to product manufacture and packaging, all processes are subject to Risk Management Programmes, audited by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority.  NZFSA also conducts independent monitoring of dairy products produced in New Zealand through their National Chemical Contaminants and Independent Verification Programmes.
